The Best Tools

Are we providing the best tools?

Bible Study Methods (BSM) is a skill every pastor needs. But in East Asia, it is a rare exception to meet a pastor who has been taught this skill.

About 10 years ago, we made our first attempt at creating a BSM course. It was challenging because:

  • No one had access to a concordance
  • No one had a Bible with cross-references
  • No one had any kind of reference book

Our first two BSM courses have had mixed success and impact. We think we can do better. And for the past 2 years, we’ve been experimenting with a fresh approach.

We want students/pastors to be motivated to get good preaching results from this course. We want them to experience the joys and benefits of Bible study by discovering results from their effort at this newly developing skill.

The revision of BSM 1 is almost complete and we have received some encouraging feedback from a recent field test:

“I have always thought that Bible study was not easy and was very boring. I didn’t enjoy it, so I didn’t study my Bible. Many times I made up my mind to read 2-3 chapters a day, but I could only sustain this for 3-4 days. The first chapter of BSM 1 is titled Enjoy Bible Study. It was a very good reminder to me!

The lessons changed my attitude towards Bible study. I believe that this course can help me a lot in improving my teaching and preaching quality. The course also helps me to understand God’s guidance better.”

The course is now going though the final stages of revision and polishing. Pray that by the end of this year, we are able to get this critical skills course into the hands of pastors in need!
