A New Chapter

Seven years ago, I moved my family to Hong Kong to try and answer the question, “Can SALT material, created with one group of people in mind, be useful in other contexts?”

This is an important question. Too often, approaches that work in one situation or culture are simply translated and transplanted to another without careful consideration. There were many reasons to believe that SALT might not work outside of its intended audience.

As we explored and did long-term training in Vietnam, Nepal, The Philippines, and Myanmar, we discovered that pieces of SALT were extremely valuable and even unique among Biblical training options.

Over these 7 years, the original curriculum has been refined as we gradually brought into focus our core strategies. Through this we have come to believe that the most important skill and body of knowledge that we can give to the emerging church in Asia is the ability to know and use the great story of God from Genesis to Revelation. To know God is to know His story. We are calling this distilled approach CoreStory.

In our work throughout Southeast Asia, we use our CoreStory curriculum to systematically learn the entirety of God’s story, providing a foundation for future knowledge and an understanding for personal relationship and ministry.

With this new tool, my family is on the move again, this time to Chiang Mai, Thailand. The past 7 years have been a proving ground and our new focus will be partnering with others in the region to share God’s story with as many church leaders as possible. It is wonderful to be able to look back and see how God has sustained our family and led us to this place. We have loved Hong Kong and desire your prayers as we go to our next location. And if you or someone you know may be interested in partnering with us, please get in touch.

Faithfully Yours,
Nathan Clifton
